Rhode Island high school track and field athletes posted several personal records at state championship meets during the week of May 18.
Aubrey Jarvis (Pilgrim) ran 4:51.84 in the girls' 1500 meters at the RIIL Class A Championships, improving from her previous best of 5:08.90. The freshman finished 5th of 19 competitors and ranks #12 in the state and #3 among freshmen.
Charlie Grand (Moses Brown) clocked 4:34.54 in the boys' 1500 meters at the RIIL Class C Championships, bettering his previous mark of 4:45.68 from May 2026. Grand placed 11th of 25 competitors and ranks #99 in the state. He also set a personal record in the 3000 meters, improving from 10:39.10 to 10:30.91.
Michael Duschang (St. Raphael Academy) ran 9:53.40 in the boys' 3000 meters at the RIIL Class C Championships, improving from his previous best of 10:13.39. The senior finished 7th of 14 competitors and ranks #67 in the state and #19 among seniors.
Maya Ferris (Middletown) ran 13.25 in the girls' 100 meters at the RIIL Class C Championships, improving from her previous mark of 13.68. The sophomore placed 7th of 37 competitors and ranks #35 in the state and #12 among sophomores.
Mackenzie Fernstrom (Exeter-West Greenwich Regional) threw 119-9 in the girls' hammer throw at the RIIL Class C Championships, improving from her previous best of 110-7 from May 2026. The senior finished 6th of 13 competitors and ranks #30 in the state and #12 among seniors. She also set personal records in the shot put (29-1, improving from 29-0.5) and discus (85-0, improving from 68-7).
Brad Laforest (La Salle Academy) ran 49.99 in the boys' 400 meters at the RIIL Class A Championships, improving from his previous mark of 51.36 from May 2026. The sophomore placed 4th of 33 competitors and ranks #5 in the state and #1 among sophomores.
Nick Cote (Westerly) clocked 52.41 in the boys' 400 meters at the RIIL Class C Championships, bettering his previous best of 53.30 from May 2026. The senior finished 3rd of 32 competitors and ranks #23 in the state and #14 among seniors.
