Class Championships Showcased The State's Elite

Avengers 4x8 Should Make Noise At States (Possibly Beyond!)

There is no doubt that defending state titlist East Greenwich is the overwhelming favorite in the 4x800m relay. The Avengers annihilated the meet record at the Class C meet where the quartet of Colin Cianciolo, Quentin Viera, Cebastian Gentil and Jeffery Pederson combined for a nation No. 14 of 7:49.0. That time is 20 seconds faster than their closest rival in the rankings, La Salle Academy (8:09.33). The question on this team is how close can it get to the state record of 7:37.62 by North Kingstown in 2014? We're sure the Avengers are making the trip to North Carolina next month for the New Balance Nationals. That would appear to be the best place to make an attempt. With relatively fresh legs and no worries about competing in multiple events to score points like the state meet, we know this foursome is capable of a time at least in the low 7:40s. A record? It will be difficult, but don't rule it out.
