High Jump
Two of the athletes in the field - Nathan Patterson (Plymouth, IN) and Mayson Conner (York, NE) - have cleared seven feet this season. A few others have done 6-9 or better. This is an event has the potential to be very competitive with a number of athletes capable of achieving high heights this weekend. Central's Gus Karweh, the recent state and New England champion, could earn All-American status if everything works out as planned. Karweh was eighth at the outdoor nationals where he cleared 6-8.25. During the spring season, he also had an all-time best of 6-10 to win the class title. This winter he has matched his indoor best of 6-7 three times, winning a league meet at the beginning of the season and also placing first at the Yale Track Classic and New England meet. It would appear that he would need to come close to his outdoor best to sneak into that top six. After talking with him after his New England title, he feels he's ready. We do, too.
