With top-seed Gianna Rao in this event, here's our best chance to earn gold this weekend. The Ponaganset senior ranks No. 1 in the country based on her winning throw and state record of 63-2 from the class meet last month. Rao will have plenty of competition as four of the top five throwers in the country are entered in this event, including Georgia's Javon Joyner of Roswell, who is the only other competitor to exceed 60 feet with her best of 60-5.25. Rao recently unleashed a 61-4.5 effort to win the Weigharama. She's appears to be ready to make it happen this weekend. She's already a two-time All American for the weight. She was fourth as a sophomore and a runner-up in 2017. This event will feature several others RI competitors capable of making it to the podium such as Barrington's Annika Kelly and Mount Pleasant's Joangely Mata.
