Five Bold (and not so Bold) Predictions For States

RELAY GOOD DAY FOR KNIGHTS

The Central boys are once again a team that can be mentioned when listing possible contenders for the team title at the State Meet. The Knights will rely on their talented sprinters, who can rack up quite a few points in the five-plus hour meet. We're predicting it will be a record-breaking day for Central in the relay department, particularly the 4x200n and 4x400m. Just a few weeks ago, the Knights set the state record in the 4x200m with a blazing 1:29.05 at the Armory Track Invitational, an effort that earned them a runner-up placement to the nation's fasted quartet, Imhotep Institute Charter of Pennsylvania. The Knights were able to get it done at the Armory's fast, banked oval. We understand the flat surface of the PCTA field house is not susceptible for fast times when comparing to a banked track. We do think it will be difficult for the Knights to break their own state mark this weekend, but their State Meet record of 1:31.15 is theirs for the taking. Central has a best of 1:31.05 at the PCTA, which they did at the Rhode Island Classic on Dec. 27. The Knights will also dip under the 4x400m mark of 3:27.97, set by Hendricken in 2012. That would could be the most important of them all. With potential for the Knights to win their first-ever indoor crown, this could be the clincher.
