Recap Of Class Championships (Updated)




Bishop Hendricken was a dominating winner at the boys' Class A Championships on Saturday. For the girls, La Salle Academy and North Kingstown tied for team honors in the Large School meet. The Hawks defeated second-place Woonsocket, 147-59. The Rams and Skippers tied with 87 points apiece in their meet. Toll Gate was third with 63 points.

The two meets kicked off eight hours of track & field at  the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house. 

Among some of the highlights of the Class A and Large School meets:

  • Hendricken's Kwity Paye, the state's top shot-putter, took his specialty with a heave of 49 feet, 2.25 inches
  • Woonsocket weight-throwers Jared Briere, Jacob Greenless and Dilyn Cote went 1-2-3 for the fourth consecutive meet. The Villa Novan trio also swept the top three placements at the divisional championships, the Yale Track Classic and the New Balance Games.
  • North Kingstown's Andrew Whitney was a double-winner, capturing the long jump with a distance of 21-0.5 and the 55m dash with a PR of 6.69
  • La Salle's Grace Connolly also came home with two victories. She broke the tape in the 1,500m (4:47.75) and the 1,000m (3:03.60). Teammate Emily Kane was a winner in the 3,000m (10:26.90) and was second in the 1K (3:05.02)
  • Central's Rachel Mews cleared 5-2 to win the high jump and clocked 42.73 to break the tape in the 300m.
  • Toll Gate's Ani Armenakyan dominated the girls' shot with a near 40-footer of 39-2.
  • Hendricken's Harry Antone earned gold in the 600m (1:25.13). He also anchored the Hawks' winning 4x400m relay (3:33.72)
  • North Kingstown's Tereza Bolibruch was first once again in the 55HH (8.53). The Skippers' Meghann Maguire took the 600m (1:40.89) and anchored the first-place 4x400 (4:16.63).
