Some Final Thoughts On The State Meet

Ellie Lawler

When it comes to cross country this South Kingstown runner always comes to race. Lawler won her second straight individual title this past Sunday. It was her third first-team all-state finish as the Rebel star was also third as a ninth-grader and eventually qualified for the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon by placing fourth at the regionals in New York. Lawler, an All American last year after placing 14th at Foot Locker Nationals, hasn't been posting faster times like her junior campaign and won Saturday's State Meet 31-seconds slower than her course record from 2015. But as she often states, it's never about the time but the placement at the finish. And once again, Lawler placement at the finish has consistently been up front. Not an easy thing to do with the level of talent in our small state.
