Some Final Thoughts On The State Meet

La Salle Boys

When La Salle lost two of its top three runners to graduation with multiple all-staters Jack Salisbury and Matt Bouthillette heading off to Georgetown, several people thought that maybe it would be too much for the Rams to overcome and a third straight state title might not happen. It was obvious throughout the season that head coach Ken Skelly, assistant coach Bill Myers and their determined Rams never doubted it could repeat the magic. Freshman Max DiMuccio was a great new addition and finished an outstanding (and expected) third overall at the State Meet. Sophomore Joseph dos Reis promised his coaches prior to the meet that he would earn a first-team all-state nod by the time he crossed the line, and did just that by placing fifth. With a 1-3-5 finish, the rest was history. People have to understand that even though it helps when top-level talent walks through your doors, it still takes knowledgeable and dedicated coaches to make sure that those athletes stay level-headed, run to their potential and peak when the time is right. Kudos to Skelly and Myers for accomplishing this often-difficult task, year after year.
