After running a 4:13 mile at the New Balance Nationals, Sean Laverty had high hopes for the Penn Relays. The Cumberland senior earned an invite into the mile for this past weekend's race, which featured some of the best runners in the country. Unfortunately, the Clipper standout ran into a bit of bad luck at the start when he was tripped up and trampled on. Bloodied and bruised from the scuffle, Laverty got back on the line for the re-start of the race. Showing the heart of a champion, Laverty finished the race. He was far off his goal of a possible sub 4:10 effort, crossing the line 16th with a time of 4:26.92. But his gutsy performance, despite the adverse circumstances, should not go unnoticed.
