No. 10 - Classical's Alva Hicks wins third straight discus title at state meet, breaking own R.I. record; cops second consecutive shot put crown

With Smithfield surprising the competition by winning the girls' state title and Hope's Quashira McIntosh finishing out her stellar senior year with three individual state titles, Hicks last time as a R.I. high-schooler may have been somewhat overlooked.

But we didn't forget.

Hicks made her final appearance at Brown Stadium a memorable one. She not only captured the shot put for the second straight year, but made it thrice as nice in the discus, winning her third consecutive crown by breaking her own state mark with a winning distance of 147 feet, 9 inches. She would go on to win the New England title and also place first in the Emerging Elite event at the New Balance Nationals.
