For the second straight weekend, Rhode Island athletes will be on the road competing at a few high-level, out-of-state invitationals.
The La Salle Academy boys will be taking a much-deserved break after their impressive win at the Great American X-C Festival. But the Lady Rams will be heading north to compete in the Eastern States Championship of the Reebok Manhattan Invitational, held at New York's famed Van Cortlandt Park. The defending state champion Rams, a runner-up at Great American last week, will face a stellar field that inlcudes nationally-ranked teams such as Pennsbury, Pa., Red Bank Catholic, N.J., and Fayetteville Manilius, N.Y.
While La Salle will be absent in the boys' competition, Bishop Hendricken provides a strong representative for Little Rhody. The Hawks are fresh off a victory in the seeded Invitational race of the Great American and will try and carry that momentum to the challenging layout at Van Cortlandt where they'll toe the line with the likes of neighboring Connecticut foes Darien, Ridgefield and Xavier and other national-caliber teams such as Fayetttville Manilius, Liverpool, N.Y., and Christan Brothers Academy, N.J., ranked No. 1 in the country.
