Five Athletes (Or Relays) To Watch At NBNO

East Greenwich 4x800m

The Avenger foursome of Colin CiancioloJeffery PedersenQuentin Viera and Cebastian Gentil  will be on a mission this weekend. After winning its second straight state crown and then capturing the New England title, East Greenwich will be looking to earn All-American status at NBNO with a top-six finish. This talented quartet has a chance to do more than that down in North Carolina. At the NE meet, East Greenwich was timed in 7:46.37, a time that ranks No. 15 in the country. The team is looking to improve on that time by a little more than nine seconds this weekend. In other words, the Avenger are hoping to erase the current state record of 7:37.62 by North Kingstown, set in 2014. It's certainly possible. We added up all the personal best of each member of the relay squad and came out with a time of 7:39.07, which is right in the ballpark. Just like NK, for East Greenwich to come close it might need a big-time PR by one of its members. The Skippers' anchor leg Zachery Emrich nearly carried his team to a victory by clocking a sub 1:50 at the nationals.
