Hawks Do It Again At Knights Of Columbus Relays!


Bishop Hendricken continued its dominance at Saturday's Knights of Columbus 4-Mile Relay.

For the 18th time in the 50-year history of the meet, the Hawks claimed the Division 1 title. The foursome of Matt St. Jean, Sean Meehan, Luke Hensler Luke Hensler and David DelBonis combined for a winning time of 18 minutes, 38.60 seconds at a cold and blustery Conley Stadium. Hendricken took the lead from the start and held a comfortable 10-15 second cushion after reaching the midway mark. La Salle finished second overall in 18:52.50, while Brookline (MA) was third in 19:19.0.

With a squad that included Ryan Holloway, John Walker, Jonathan Torano and Matt Walker, Westerly captured the Division 2 crown with a final time of 19:01.60. Classical was second at 19:02.70.

Saint Raphael Academy was a dominant winner in the Division 3 race posting a time of 19:00.80. Parker Charter (MA) took runner-up honors, crossing the line in 19:30.60.

Massachusetts' teams swept both girls' races. Hingham took the Division 1 title with the quartet of Heather Linscott, Margot Murphy, Maddie Mildrum and Caroline Johannes combining for a time of 23:15.60. Bishop Feehan (MA)finished second in 23:43.90, followed by La Salle in third with a time of 23:48.50.

Millis clocked the fastest time of the day to cop the Division 2 title with a time of 23:11.80. MIchaela Hafford, Abbey Miller, Lucy Claytin and Bethany Steiner comprised the foursome. Westerly finished second over in 23:28.30. Parker Charter was third at 23:37.50.

In the freshmen mile races, Westerly's Tanner Kelly held back in the early stages and with about 100m remaining blasted past front-runner Jack McLaughlin of La Salle to win with a time of 4:51.01. Chariho's James Penhallow was second (4:52.2), while McLaughlin secured third (4:52.60). Pilgrim's Ava McCann won the girls' race in 5:47.50. Bishop Feehan's Sophia Aruda placed second at 5:48.30. 

The meet also featured a hammer. Lincoln demonstrated it dominance by securing four of the top -five placements in the boys' competition. The Lions' Garrett Doyle earned individual honors with a heave of 207-8 (US #2). He was a little more than a foot ahead of Classical's Jacob Furland, who was second with a toss of 206-2 (US #3). Evan Grivers (third, 189-6), Matt Thibaudeau (fourth,188-10) and Kyle Moison (fifth, 183-8) took the next three spots.

For the second straight year, Ponaganset's Gianna Rao won the girls' title. Rao had a strong, early-season throw of 168 feet, 5 inches (US #6). Toll Gate's Voski Armenkyan took runner-up honors with a distance of 152-7.
