New Balance Nationals: Westerly Excels In EE SMR


Not a bad start for Rhode Island athletes at the New Balance Nationals.

During Day 1 of the three-day meet on Friday, the Westerly High girls captured the Emerging Elite Sprint Medley Relay. The quartet of Jamie Murray, Sydney Federico, Helena Hall-Thomsen and Randi Burr combined for a nation No. 2 of  4 minutes, 5.49 seconds. Murray and Federico averaged just over 27 seconds for their 200m legs, Hall-Thomsen was timed in 58.31 for 400m and Burr anchored the relay with an all-time 800m best of 2:12.66.

Lincoln sophomore Jackie Andrews also earned gold, taking the EE Weight Throw with a distance of 50-1.25.

South Kingstown's Ellie Lawler was 15th overall in the Championship 5K with a time of 18:04.89.

East Greenwich's Cebastian Gentil finished second overall in the EE 800m with a PR of 1:55.31. Conor Murphy of Classical was eighth in 1:56.89.
