It may have been a week off for most Rhode Island athletes competing in next Saturday''s New England Championships.
But it wasn't for Joseph dos Reis.
The La Salle Academy junior, last week's state 1,500-meter champion, competed in the mile run Sunday at the BU Last Chance Meet. Dos Reis took full advantage of the banked oval and quality competition by winning his heat with an all-time best of 4 minutes, 17.30 seconds. Dos Reis edged Benjamin Hearon of Williams College, who was timed in 4:17.89. The top five finishers in his heat broke 4:20.
The overall title was won by Izaic Yorks of Brooks Beast in 3:53.40. Former Hendricken star Brian Doyle was fifth in his heat and 24th among the 89 runners that competed with a PR of 4:05.68.
Former Central all-stater Donatien Djero, a freshman at Northeastern, was fourth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.77.
