Cumberland High took both team titles at Monday's Freshmen State Championships, held at East Greenwich.
Jack McLoughlin of La Salle Academy claimed the individual boys' title with a time of 13 minutes, 7.45 seconds for the four-kilometer (2.4 miles) course. The Prout School's Evan Reynolds was second in 13:10.07. Cumberland defeated runner-up Bishop Hendricken, 101-107, for the team crown. The Clippers were led by Owen Molis (fifth, 13:43.48) and Brendan Johnson (11th, 14:05.85).
In the girls' race, Kaylie Armitage of Exeter/West Greenwich was the first to cross the line. She was timed in 15:13.69. Sophie Degenova of North Kingstown was second in 15:32.40. The Clippers downed East Greenwich, 59-78, for the team prize. Olivia Belt (third, 15:36.62) and Bailee Brown (fifth, 15:44.80) were the top finishers for the Blue and White.
