Ten Events To Watch At The R.I. State Meet

Lincoln's Samantha Andrews

Girls' Hammer

Just like the boys' event, this one should be close. Four of the athletes in the field have a toss of more than 170 feet. Holding the top seed, is the only one to exceed 180 feet, Ponaganset's Gianna Rao. Rao has a best of 185-8.75 in early May. This past weekend she was in Havana, Cuba, where she competed in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational, an event she placed seventh with a distance of 179-6. If she's at her best, Rao will be tough to beat.  But you can't ignore some of the competition behind her such as Cranston East's Molly Botts, who last week won at Mount Pleasant with an all-time best of 174-3. There's also Toll Gate's Ani Amenakyan (172-4) and Lincoln's Samantha Andrews (170-4) that could surprise.
