North Kingstown held off Toll Gate to capture the girls' team crown at the Junior Varsity State Meet on Saturday. The Skippers defeated the Titans by a slim 55-47 margin at the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house.
North Kingstown managed just one win in the four-plus hour meet with Nicole Gutkowski clearning 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump. The Skippers' depth played a key part in the victory. NK scored 11 of its points in the 1,500-meter run where freshman Catherine Schultz was the top finisher, taking third in 5 minutes, 21.61 seconds. The event was won by Prout School ninth-grader Sophia Mayo in 5:18.95.
In the weight throw, West Warwick's Megan Cruz narrowly beat Toll Gate's Voski Armenakyan with a winning distance of 42-3 to Armenakyan's 42-1 effort.
Coventry freshman Caitlan Randall easily captured the 3,000m with a solid 11:23.86 clocking.
