La Salle sweeps team titles at RI State Meet; Course records for Principe, Lawler

Under ideal conditions on Sunday afternoon, both the boys' and girls' course records were smashed at the RIIL State Championships, held at Ponaganset.

For the second straight year, La Salle Academy junior DJ Principe was the first across the line in the boys' competition. Hitting his first mile at sub 4:40, Principe cruised to record time of 15:09.57. South Kingstown sophomore Ellie Lawler was a convincing winner in the girls' meet with a 12-second CR of 17:29.28.

La Salle swept the team titles.. Principe and senior teammates Matt Bouthillette and Jack Salisbury took the top three positions, leading the Rams to their second straight crown courtesy of a 35-59 victory over second-place Bishop Hendricken. The Lady Rams captured their third consecutive title with a record-tying score of just 28 points. North Kingstown finished second with 74 points. Eliza Rego set the tone for La Salle by taking runner-up honors with a time of 18:14.34.
