East Greenwich senior Tommy Sommer continued his recent resurgence this year as a top-tier distance runner with an impressive performance at Friday's New York Relays.
Sommer was just a few strides away from stealing the show in the 3,200-meter run, finishing second overall with a personal best time of 9 minutes, 21.79 seconds. Winning the overall title was Ridgefield (CT) senior Austin Gilbert, who broke the tape at 9:21.47. Classical junior Joe Murphy was fourth in the race with a time of 9:33.03.
In the 400m hurdles, Classical's Nathan Narcisse was sixth overall at 58.66.
