Throughout the week, RI MileSplit will feature some of the top athletes that will be competing at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships this weekend (March 13-15).
Sheridan Wilbur, La Salle Academy
Sheridan will be running her final high school race on the indoor surface and all signs point to a PR performance in the two-mile run at the NBNI. The Ram senior finished as a runner-up at the New England Championship a few weeks ago where she ran 10:40.89. Leading up to the regional competition, she ran a 3K est of 10:07.37 to win the Class A title and then captured her first state crown the following week where she was timed in 10:17.50. This race features a talented field, including NBNO two-mile champion Hannah DeBalsi of Staples (Conn.), who defeated Sheridan at the NE meet with the nation's No. 1 time of 10:26.90. Also scheduled to compete is last year's runner-up, Michigan's Audrey Belf of Birmingham Seaholm, who has done 10:16 for two miles and 10:10 for 3,200m. There's also North Carolina's Ryen Frazier of Ravenscroft, the Foot Locker X-C National runner-up, who has a best of 10:12 for 3,200m. If Sheridan can run in the 10:20s or low 10:30s, she could place among the top six or 10. With the level of competition and with the success she's had lately, she can certainly do that.
