Marsella breaks four-minute mile at Terrier Classic!!!

Former Chariho standout Mike Marsella, a sophomore at the University of Virginia, joined an exclusive group on Saturday.

The ex-Charger all-stater became only the fourth Rhode Islander to break the four-minute mile. Marsella achieved the rarity at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University where he won the race with a time of 3 minutes, 59.97 seconds. Finishing second overall was Steve Mangan of the BAA with a time of 4:00.19. Marsella's teammate, Henry Wynne, a onetime star from Staples, Conn., was third in 4:00.28.

Also in the meet, Brown University freshman Zachery Emrich, a multiple all-stater from North Kingstown, finished 15th overall in the 800-meter run with a solid time of 1:53.16.

Coming soon, RI MileSplit will have a complete story on Marsella's historical day.
