Yale Track Classic: Kelly, Hicks dominate weight throw

It didn't take long for Rhode Island to make its mark at the Yale Track Classic with victories in both weight throws Friday morning, the first two championship events of the meet.

To no one's surprise, Barrington High senior Adam Kelly won the 25-pound weight. Kelly, the No. 1 thrower in the country, led a 1-2-3 sweep by the Eagles with a toss of 78 feet, 6 inches. Finishing second was junior Bobby Colantonio (72-4) and placing third was senior Mike Alvernaz (67-2).

In the girls' weight throw, R.I. was equally successful with Classical senior Alva Hicks taking first with a heave of 53-10. Junior teammate Lysah Russell was second at 51-3.
