Indoor Track: Five Girls To Watch In Middle/Long Distance Events

Eliza Rego, junior, La Salle Academy

With the graduation of multiple state champion Maddy Berkson, Eliza would appear to be the runner to beat from the 1,000m to 3,000m. She finished second to the former Classical star in all three events at the indoor states and was also the runner-up to Berkson in the 1,500 and 3K during the outdoor campaign. Eliza had a solid cross-country season where she ran the fastest 5K (17:38.29) among all R.I. runners and was fourth at the state meet, fifth at the New England’s and helped the Rams finish ninth at the recent Nike Cross Nationals. Eliza has a best of 3:01 for the 1,000m. She also has run 4:29 for the 1,500 and 10:16 for the 3K, times she ran last spring.
