Matt Pelletier, the state's top distance runner and a Warwick Vets grad, captured the NU Hartford Marathon on Saturday morning.
The 35-year-old West Greenwich resident finished the 26.2-mile race with a personal-best clocking of 2 hours, 17 minutes, 2 seconds. It was his second marathon victory in six weeks. Back in late August, Pelletier won the Revkjavik Marathon in Iceland with a 2:18:00 effort. Both marathons qualify for the "B' standard of the Olympic Trials.
Pelletier, who previously had finished second and third at Hartford, his other two times competing in the popular event, defeated Ethiopia's Gesera Genemo. Genemo crossed the line in 2:17:26. Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va., was third at 2:25.57.
Check out a productive summer by the Harfford winner
