Rhode Islanders captured eight events and La Salle Academy went home with both team plaques at the 45th annual Dartmouth Relays this weekend.
In the girls’ competition, the Rams compiled 60 points to defeat runner-up Colonie (N.Y.), 60-48. Sophomore Eliza Rego copped the mile run with a personal best of 5 minutes, 2.5 seconds. Rego’s win is the second straight by a La Salle runner at the meet – Sheridan Wilbur was the 2013 titlist – and also earns her a berth in the Junior Mile at next month’s New Balance Grand Prix at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.
La Salle also earned gold in the 4x800 and the distance medley relays. Alicia DeCastro, Caroline Falvey, Karina Tavares and Rego combined for a time of 9:39.97 in the 4x800, while Tavares, DeCastro, Rego and Amanda Joyal comprised the DMR squad that won with the country’s best clocking of 12:18.44.
Barrington senior Abby Livingston broke her own meet record in the 600 by taking the event in 1:34.87, a time that ranks No. 3 nationwide. Narragansett senior Leia Mistowski won the 20-pound weight throw with a season best of 52-2.25.
La Salle out-scored fellow R.I. rival Bishop Hendricken, 60-28, in the boys’ meet. The Rams were triumphant in two relay events, taking the 4x800 with a time of 8:15.64 and the DMR with a 10:36.67. Both squads were comprised of Jack Salisbury, Matt Bouthilette, Jamie Placco and Dan Piava.
The foursome also scored individually. The most impressive occurred in the mile where the Rams had three of their runners among the top six. Salisbury nabbed runner-up honors in 4:20.06. Paiva was fourth at 4:21.62 and Bouthilette placed sixth in 4:22.84. Placco was third overall in the 800, cracking two minutes with a 1:58.39 clocking.
Bishop Henrdicken senior Colin Tierney earned the two-mile crown with a time of 9:40.63. La Salle freshman D.J. Principe took second at 9:42.23. La Salle’s Sean Greene was third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-4.
In the no-surprise category, Barrington senior Adam Kelly was a winner in the 25-pound weight with a distance of 71-5. Owen Russell of Moses Brown set a new school record of 67-3 to finish second.
