Emma McMillan of Barrington High put the finishing touch on her outstanding sophomore season Saturday afternoon by taking 45th overall at the Nike Cross-Country Nationals in Oregon. McMillan, who won her second straight state title last month, finished the five-kilometer, European-style course at Portland Meadows in 18 minutes, 19.8 seconds. She was the 14th fastest tenth-grader in the field.
The Eagle standout, a fourth-place finisher at the NXN-NE regionals, was the third New Englander across the line. Vermont’s Autumn Eastman of Champlain Valley Union was 16th among the 198 runners with a time of 17:56.9. Cumberland native and Bishop Feehan (Mass.) senior Abbie McNulty placed 25th at 18:05.
In the boys’ race, Ridgefield (Conn.) senior Trevor Hopper was 37th overall at 15:37. Just two-seconds behind was Christian Stafford of Pembroke (Mass.) with a time of 15:39, good for 41st overall.
