One of the coolest meets in southern New England takes place in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It is the MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Meet which welcomes teams from all over New England on a dark Friday and Saturday night to compete over the flat 5k course to net some PRs and earn some hardware along the way.
East Greenwich sent both squads to the race and came away with great results on both sides. Rylee Shunney led the way for the lady avengers with a 5th place finish in 18:22.2. She was followed by Ava Peters in 19:31.5, Ella Maybaum in 19:45.1, and Alicia Chen in 19:47.7. East Greenwich placed 2nd in the meet with 79 points as Holliston High School won with just 39 points. One notable absence was Reese Fahys, and hopefully, we will see her at Class in a few weeks.
On the boys' side for East Greenwich, Nick Martin ran a phenomenal race. Martin has won his second major invite in a row after taking the title at Wickham Park in the medium school race. His 15:24.4 is one of the fastest times in RI this year only behind Devan Kipyego. His team would see Justin DiStefano and Luke Allen also break 17 minutes as the team took third overall behind Burlington and Coe-Brown.
Other top performances include Smithfield duo Elijah Saddlemire and Jason Padula. They both broke 16 minutes with times of 15:50.1 and 15:55.7 for 3rd and 5th. The two both broke 16 for the first time. Cole Francis took 6th in 15:56.7 behind Padula. These runners look primed to take All-State honors if they continue to run at this level.
