Moses Brown School freshman Sophia Gorriaran earned Gatorade Player of the Year Honors for Rhode Island for her performance on the track and in the classroom.

Though the outdoor season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, Gorriaran certainly left her mark on Rhode Island on the track. She held state leading marks in 8 events from the 200m to the Mile. She set a new Indoor Freshman National Record in the 800m clocking 2:03.98, good for US#3, at the BU Last Chance Invitational.

Gorriaran is just getting started on her high school career. Though there was no outdoor season she ran 2:03.36 on June 13th at the Providence Cobras Twilight. She came into high school with 2:08 800m credentials, but certainly exceeded expectations on the track immediately. Along with a the freshman national record her 2:03.98 is good for US#4 All-Time Indoors.
