This will be the first of three events for Portsmouth's Nikki Merrill so you know she'll have fresh legs for a fast time. The Patriots' junior is coming off a sub 2:50 1,000m at last week's Dr. Sander Invitational, a meet she also ran 1:33.57 for 600m. Merrill won the mile at Yale a few weeks ago where she clocked 4:57.99 on the banked oval. She's capable of a mid 4:30 effort for 1,500m if the competition is right. Her chief competition will be Westerly's Randi Burr, who is never afraid to challenge the leaders and will ensure that the race is honest. She has a 4:43 indoor best and did 4:36 at the outdoor state meet last June. Other competitors like Barrington teammates Caroline Livingston and Katie Zitzmann should also figure in the mix.
