Principe clocks 4:02.96 at Millrose Games

It was another high-powered performance by DJ Principe.

Competing in the Elite/Pro Mile of the NYRR Millrose Games on Saturday, the La Salle Academy senior flirted with the four-minute barrier once again, finishing fifth overall with a time of 4 minutes, 2.96 seconds. Principe  was within striking distance of a "sub 4" throughout the race with splits of two minutes at the half and 3:32 at 1,400m.

"He ran well," said La Salle assistant coach Bill Myers. "He was in no-man's land for a little bit of the race but he caught up to the pack. He ran tough."

Myers stated that Principe will now set his eyes on next Saturday's State Meet and the other post-season meet such as the New England Championships and the New Balance Nationals (NBN) in mid-March. At NBN, Principe will be hoping to win a national title in the two mile, a race he placed fourth in 2016.

'We are done chasing four minutes for this past of the season," Myers said. "We are just going to focus on the states and the team, and then he'll do the two mile at nationals. After the states, he has three weeks to train for that. (Today) he just ran tough. I'm happy for him. I'm proud of him. He ran great!"
