For the second straight year, MileSplit RI will provide a LIVE stream of the RI Classic at the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house. The eighth annual event will be held on Tuesday. The meet includes teams from eight different states - Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont and host Rhode Island.
The RI Classic, co-directed by Thom Spann and Bob and Anne Rothenberg, kicks off with the girls' events beginning at 9 a.m. and the boys starting at 2 p.m. The final event of the day, the boys' freshmen/sophomore 4x400m relay, is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. From start to finish, MileSplit RI will have it all covered with play-by-play commentary.
Two meet records were established at last year's meet with Huntington (NY) winning the boys' 4x400-meter relay with a new mark of 3:26.60 and former Wilbur Cross (CT) great Danae Rivers capturing the girls' 800m with a time of 2:12.09.
The featured mile races should be heavily contested with several from the Ocean State capable of stealing the crown. In the boys' race, R.I. will be represented by Barrington's Mars Bishop, North Providence's Nathan Coogan, Cumberland's Ben Drezek and North Kingstown's Sam Toolin. Westerly's Randi Burr, La Salle's Grace Connolly, Cumberland's Julia Dempsey, La Salle's Emily Kane and Barrington's Katie Zitzmann will toe the line for the girls.
