At the Foot Locker NE Regionals, the top 10 finishers earn a trip to sunny San Diego for the nationals. As a sophomore last year, South Kingstown's Ellie Lawler qualified by taking eighth overall. That's exactly where she ranks with the speed ratings going into Saturday's meet. The No. 1 seed is Alyssa Aldridge of Mainland Regional (NJ). Aldridge and Lawler are two of four state champions that will toe the line at Van Cortlandt. Aldridge was unbeaten in her home state and won the Meet of Champions at 17:55. Her season best is 17:41.She was sixth at the Foot Locker Regionals last year. Lawler has yet to break 18 minutes this season, coming mere steps from breaking the mark at the State Meet where she ran 18:00.67. She might have to run a time close to that effort to qualify on a more-challenging course than Ponaganset.
