Another Ho-Hum Affair For DJ

In preparation for bigger (and quite possibly) better things, if you can believe it, DJ Principe of La Salle Academy turned the New England meet into his own personal time trial before he heads to New York with his teammates for the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regionals on Nov. 26. Principe won his second straight title in a methodical 15:13.39. The Ram senior hung with Patrick O'Brien of Oyster River (NH) for the first mile, passed in 4:47, and then broke away and was all by his lonesome, a familiar scenario this fall, for the remainder of the race. Principe was capable of running faster on Ponaganset's covered-bridge trail - he ran 14:56 at the State Meet - but the key here was the victory. He's saving his best for NXN where he's very capable of cracking the top three at the national meet in early December with a victory in Portland, Ore., not too far-fetched. He looked extremely relaxed running 4:55 miles this past weekend, a good sign.
