Lady Avengers, Rams Rule Freshmen States

It was home sweet home for the East Greenwich girls at the Freshmen State Meet.

Competing on their home course Monday afternoon, the Lady Avengers won a tight battle for the team title where 29 points separated the top four teams. East Greenwich defeated second-place Smithfield, 66-79. Cumberland, spurred by an individual win from Adah Anderson, finished third with 83 points. La Salle was fourth with 95.

Anderson broke the tape with a time of 15 minutes, 39.40 seconds for the four-kilometer course. South Kingstown's Kyle Fish was second at 15:58.34. She finished just ahead of East Greenwich's Bryn Shunney, who was third in 15:58.92.

With a 1-2 finish from Max DiMuccio and Jack Wilbur, La Salle Academy captured the boys' team title. The Rams beat runner-up Bishop Hendricken, 32-62. North Kingstown was third with 86 points.

DiMuccio, who has the fourth best time in the country for the 4K distance, nearly matched his best from last month's Injury Fund with a winning clocking of 12:54.67. Wilbur, younger brother of former La Salle standout Sheridan Wilbur, was timed in 13:20.26.  Classical's Conor Murphy was third in 13:28.23.
