Principe clocks 4:07 at Nike Elite race!

What happens when you assemble some of the best high school distance runners in the country in one race?

Probably something similar to what happened at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field on Saturday afternoon.

In an exhibition mile event at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, a race that featured athletes from the Nike Elite Camp, including La Salle Academy junior D.J. Principe, eight runners clocked a time under 4 minutes, 9 seconds. Principe was among that select group, finishing sixth overall with a nearly five-second PR of 4:07.66. The Ram all-stater was a mere stride behind this year's Loucks Games' 3,200m champion Noah Affolder of Carthage (NY), who was fifth at 4:07.33.  Southlake's Reed Brown edged fellow Texan, Sam Worley of New Braunfels Canyon, for the title with a winning time of 4:04.73. Worley was timed in 4:04.86.
