DJ's blog: Day 2 at Nike Elite Camp

La Salle Academy standout DJ Principe is in Eugene, Oregon this week at the Nike Elite Camp. He is among 18 of the best runners in the country, who will be entering their senior year in high school this fall. While at the five-day camp at the University of Oregon, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that began on Wednesday, DJ has graciously agreed to blog about his experience.

Here's his latest blog:

THURSDAY

Even though we just got to Oregon, today was going to be another day of travel. We woke up and got a chance to have some Nike shoe-shaped waffles at our hotel before packing up and heading to the bus. For the next few days we are going to be staying in Eugene in dorms at the University of Oregon. However before leaving for Eugene we got a chance to sit down with one of the original members of the Nike organization and learn about the priorities and focus of the company.  After about an hour and a half of driving, we arrived on campus and settled into our dorms. We ate a quick lunch before gearing up to run. Before our run we had an amazing opportunity to stop and appreciate one of the greatest American distance runners of all time. Before arriving at the track to run, we stopped at "Pre's Rock" which is a great memorial at the spot of Steve Prefontaine's death. After taking a few moments, we headed out for a five-mile run and I decided to do some light 200s to loosen up.

After cleaning up, we got a chance to look at the new innovations at Nike. As part of the "Lane 8" experience,  we got a chance to look at the most recent Nike technology, and even test out Nike's newest shoe, the Lunar Epic. We also received our Nike Elite uniforms at the conclusion of the experience. Today was an eye-opening experience to all that Nike provides for its athletes, and how focused they are on elite athletics.
