Former Barrington standout Adam Kelly, a freshman at Princeton, was second at the Junior Nationals.
Bobby Colantonio and Adam Kelly are heading to Poland.
For the second straight year, the former Barrington High teammates claimed the top two positions at Friday's USATF Junior National Championships. Colantonio defended his tile with a personal-best heave of 243 feet, 2 inches for the 6 kg. hammer. Kelly, who just finished his freshman year at Princeton, took runner-up honors with a distance of 239-6. Another Barrington alum, Mike Alvernaz of Troy University, was third at 211-6.
Both Colantonio and Kelly qualified for the US Junior team that will be making the trip to Bydgoszck, Poland for the IAAF World U20 Championships, July 19-24. The two throwers easily achieved the standard of 68.0 meters.
