OMG...What A State Meet!!!

I Think We've Seen This Before

History does repeat itself.

In almost a carbon copy of last year's state meet, Smithfield pulled out its' second straight championship. Just like in 2015, the Sentinels couldn't celebrate until the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay. Smithfield was tied with North Kingstown with 58 points. After the Skippers did their part by winning the unseeded heat with a PB of 4:08.80, Smithfield needed to post a faster time to assure a victory. With the pressure squarely on their backs, the Sentinels just squeaked by NK by finishing fourth overall in the seeded section of the race with a time of 4:08.30, a half a second in front of their rival. The final score, 62-60.The Sentinels had multiple stars shine on Saturday, including double-victor Alyssa Colbert, who captured the discus and defended her state title in the javelin.
