R.I. State Meet: Girls' Team Preview

The slight favorite would appear to be La Salle Academy, who will try and win a title that has eluded them since 2012. The Rams should fare well in both the running and field events. Look for Eliza Rego to lead the way on the track where the Rams could score at least 50 points. Rego will be looking to defend her title in the 1,500m where she has a season and state best of 4:34.  This is an event that should be tightly contested with the next five runners all within five seconds of each other, beginning with Westerly's Randi Burr. Rego is also the top seed in the 800m. But the one event that could make a difference if the meet is close down the stretch is the final running event of the day, the 3,000m. La Salle has potential to score close to 20 points with the talented crew of Karina Tavares, Grace Connolly and Emily Kane. In the relay events, La Salle is among the top squads in all three with its  best chances for a top three placement in the 4x800m and 4x400m.

As far as business outside the oval, this is where it gets tricky,  Kelsey Coughlin and Aislin Mumford share the No. 1 seed with three other athletes in the pole vault with a height of 9-6. Will they be in the upper half or bottom half in terms of scoring? The same goes for the high jump where the Rams' Alexandra Montagano is among a half a dozen that have cleared a state best of 5-1.
