Hawks, Lady Skippers claim crowns at JV States


Bishop Hendricken and North Kingstown were the respective boys' and girls' team champions at Tuesday's Junior Varsity State Meets.

The Hawks defeated second-place La Salle Academy, 107-36. Coventry was third with 35 points. For the girls, the Skippers compiled 89 points. West Warwick finished second with 66 points.

Pilgrim's Austin Asoroona won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20 seconds. He was second to Mount Pleasant's Albert Zieh in the 200m with a 23.60 clocking to Zieh's 23.50 effort.

Hendricken's Dan Ruggiero beat a tight field in the 3,000m with a winning time of 9:25.10. Just five seconds separated the top four finishers. The Hawks occupied six of the first seven placements in the race. 

Freshman Camden Harrigan edged Coventry's Jake Tavares in the 400m with a fast 52.50 clocking. Tavares finished at 52.90.

In the girls' meet, Bay View's' Sarah Bain coasted to the 1,500m title with a time of 5:06.80.

Cumberland freshman Gabrielle Abramek was the first to break the tape in the 800m with a time of 2:27.70.

Mount Pleasant sprinter Gifty Bio took the 100m dash at 12.90. She was also fifth in the 200m at 27.90.
