EAST COAST INVITATIONAL
Providence Career and Technical Academy fieldhouse
Friday-Saturday
On Friday and Saturday teams throughout the northeast will be at the Providence Career and Technical Academy field house for the annual East Coast Invitational. The Rhode Island-based meet provides a suitable alternative to schools not making the trek to Connecticut for the annual Yale Track Classic, also this weekend.
The two-day meet, which begins on Friday night, will feature several top seeds from the Ocean State. In the featured mile run, a qualifier for the Junior Mile at the New Balance Grand Pix next month, La Salle's Matt Bouthillette and Eliza Rego are the No. 1 seeds in their respective events. Bouthillette recently finished third at the Dartmouth Relays behind teammates Jack Salisbury and DJ Principe. He'll be tested by New Hampshire's Liam Kimball and Barrington's Mars Bishop. Rego is the top seed in the girls' race. She's also coming off a third-place finish at Dartmouth. She was the individual winner at the Rhode Island Classic last month. Her top competition is Bellingham's Sarah Edwards, who is the only other runner to crack five minutes in the field.
Central sprinter Djero Donatian is the No. 1 seed in the 55-meter dash (6.65) and a two seed in the 400m (50.6). In the girls' 400m, look for Classical's May Stern to lead the pack. Her best of 58.5 tops the list of all entries. The Eagles' Bishop and North Providence's Nathan Coogan are 1-2 in the 800m.
Mount St. Charles' CJ Berg, who was a runner-up in the two mile at Dartmouth with a best of 9:28, is your No. 1 seed in that event.
Barrington's Bobby Colantonio will split his time between two meets. The nation's top weight-thrower will be at Yale on Friday morning and the East Coast meet on Saturday. He's leads the country with his PB of 82-0.5, thrown earlier this season. Woonsocket's Jared Briere is No. 2 with his 70-8.25 effort.
