La Salle sweeps DMR at Dartmouth

Two victories, two meets records, two nation No. 1s.

La Salle Academy's distance medley relay squads were simply too much for the competition during Day 1 of the Dartmouth Relays Friday night.

The Rams' quartet of Matt Bouthillette (3:08), David Medeiros (:54), Jack Salisbury (1:58) and DJ Principe (4:17) easily won the boys' race with a winning time of 10 minutes,18.28 seconds, the fastest clocking in the country. Finishing a distant second was Danbury with a time of 10:44.38. Cumberland was third at 10:48.39.

In the girls' race, Eliza Rego (3:38), Jessica Apajee (1:04), Emily Kane (2:19) and Karina Taveres (5:09) combined for a first-place time of 12:11.68.  Colonie of New York was the runner-up at 12:32.72.

In the other events on Friday, Bishop Hendricken's foursome of Jared Grossi, Ethan Pezzullo, Nick Williams and Jordan Dagrin secured sixth the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:47.34. The Barrington squad of Brianna Gausland, Eric Abbott, Katie Zitzmann and Julia Ztizman were fourth overall in the girls' SMR with a 4:19.06 clocking. Cumberland's William Mardo was second overall in the unseeded mile with a 4:32.99 effort. Teammate James Haupt was fourth (4:33.63) and Hendricken's Jeff Venter was fifth (4:36.53).
