Toolin wins national title at Junior Olympics meet


Sam Toolin ended his spectacular cross-country season on a high note.

On Saturday, the North Kingstown freshman captured the the age 13-14 division of the USATF National Junior Olympics Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Toolin earned his national title by covering the four-kilometer course in a time of 13 minutes, 17.1 seconds. He was more than 13 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer.

Toolin's latest performance caps off a fall campaign that featured a fourth-place finish at the State Meet, a sixth-place showing at the New England Championships and a ninth-place effort at the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regionals.
