La Salle Academy junior DJ Principe will be aiming for his second straight individual state title on Sunday. At this past Saturday's Class A meet, the Ram standout proved he'll be tough to dethrone.
Principe, our Performer of the Week, came just five seconds from the course record at Ponaganset with a fast time of 15 minutes, 19.98 seconds for the five-kilometer course. The La Salle runner owns the best time in the state this year with his 14:59.03 effort at the season-opening Injury Fund Carnival. He also won the Bowdoin X-C Classic in N.Y., last month with a solid time of 15:44.99 over a very-tough terrain in Wappinger Falls, site of the Nike Northeast Regionals on Nov. 28.
