Performer of the Week: Ellie Lawler, South Kingstown

With the state meet less than two weeks away, one athlete that shouldn't be ignored is South Kingstown sophomore Eliie Lawler, our Performer of the Week.

Al last Thursday's Skee Carter (Bronco) Invitational, the Rebel standout gave notice that her training is on path to a peak performance at the states by winning the girls' title with a personal best of 17 minutes, 34.50 seconds. Her time was not only a course record for the generous five-kilometer layout at Burrillville Middle School, it's also the fastest time this season among all competitors. Lawler, who was a fifth-place finisher at last year's state meet as a ninth-grader and was also fourth at the Nike Northeast Regionals, has been consistent this fall on the trails. She won her race at the season-opening Injury Fund Carnival and placed third at the Manchester Invitational in late September.
