Middle School States: North Cumberland sweeps; DiMuccio, Anderson earn individual honors

North Cumberland Middle School didn't just sweep the team titles at the Junior High State Meet on Saturday afternoon.

It simply dominated!

With three of its runners among the first nine finishers, the boys' squad easily defeated second-place Gallagher, 57-117. The girls had all five of their scoring runners finish in the top 21 en route to a convincing 63-109 decision over runner-up Cole.

As for individual honors, eighth-grader Maxwell DiMuccio of St. Margaret's in Pawtucket, easily snared the boys' crown, covering the 3,000-meter course at Goddard State Park in a fast time of 10 minutes, 11.3 seconds. Placing second was North Smithfield's Jack Wilbur at 10:28.9. Ethan Carpenter of North Cumberland was third at 10:31.6.

North Cumberland's Adah Anderson, a fifth-place finisher at last year's states, won the girls' race with a time of 11:47.2. Cole's Grace McDonald was second in 12:02.4 and defending champion Ashlyn Maio of Gallagher was third with a 12:07.9 clocking.
