R.I. Track and Field Foundation
Two-time defending R.I. cross country champion Emma Mc Millan, of Barrington High, handily won the 24th edition of the Thetford Academy “Woods Trail Run’’ in Vermont on Saturday. Mc Millan hit the tape in 18 minutes, 54.9 seconds, almost a full minute ahead of second-place finisher Sophia Gorman, of Champlain Valley Union (19:46). A total of 111 girls answered the gun.
In the boys’ 5K run, East Greenwich’s Noah Barreto was the first Rhode Islander over the line. He clocked 17:23 for 12th place. The winner was Alex Oberg, of Darien High in Connecticut, in 15:44. One hundred forty-nine runners finished the boys’ race.
In team scoring on Saturday, the Barrington girls placed sixth out of 57 teams with 199 points. The Avenger boys were second among 59 teams with 154.
