National title for Eagle hammer-thrower

Barrington High sophomore Bobby Colantonio lived up to his top billing at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship on Wednesday.

The No. 1 seed by more than 30 feet, Colantonio captured the age 15-16 category in the hammer throw with a heave of 215 feet, 7 inches at Turner Stadium in Texas. The Eagle standout, a R.I. state champion and the country's best tenth-graders this past year, defeated runner-up Joshua Hernandez of El Paso Wings Track Club (Tx.) by nearly 31 feet. Hernandez had a top distance of 184-08.
