Another gold (and record) for Colantonio?

Just a week after his record-setting win at the USATF New England Junior Olympic (JO) Championships, Barrington High hammer-thrower Bobby Colantonio is looking to strike gold again on Sunday.

Colantonio will be in Bloomington, Ind., for the USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Robert C Haugh T&F Complex. The Eagle sophomore, who won the state individual title earlier this month, established a JO record on June 21 with his first-place toss of 218 feet, 11 inches. He owns a best of 228-0, which he did at the Schomp Invitational on May 3.

Colantonio is the national freshmen record-holder for the collegiate hammer (16 pounds) and also holds U.S. age-group marks for the high school 12-pound hammer for 15 and 16 year olds. He's 15-feet shy of the sophomore national mark of 243-11 by California's Conor McCullough in 2007. New York's Rudy Winkler holds the national record of 260-5, which he did last July at West Point.

Colantonio is eligible for the tenth-grade record until the end of August. He'll have several opportunities to attempt an assualt on that mark throughout the summer months.
